In a recent interview with Shippingwatch, StormGeo CEO Kim Sørensen discussed the rapidly evolving digital landscape in shipping. Sørensen emphasized the importance of scaling up to meet industry demands, predicting that only a handful of platforms will dominate in the coming years.
Today, between 20 and 50 digital optimization platforms serve the shipping industry, but Sørensen foresees this number shrinking to just a few major players within the next few years.
"When I talk to my shipping customers, they tell me they are tired of logging into seven different platforms to manage their fleets," Sørensen explained to Shippingwatch. "Customers want a single solution that meets as many of their needs as possible."
StormGeo, which already supports 13,000 vessels—one-third of the global fleet—aims to strengthen its leadership position by expanding its platform and broadening its functionality, including through acquisitions, Sørensen told Shippingwatch.
Sørensen also explained how the industry's green transition and decarbonization regulations drive the demand for optimization solutions, which is a significant growth opportunity for StormGeo. By leveraging 25 years of data from over 72,000 voyages annually, Sørensen explained that StormGeo has access to a unique database that enables unparalleled insights into vessel performance and fuel efficiency.
With around 450 of its 700 employees dedicated to shipping, StormGeo is positioned as one of the most prominent players in this market, Sørensen concludes, believing that StormGeo's comprehensive solutions and continued innovation will ensure its place among the leaders.
